Fashion and Fitness seem like an unlikely pair some might think, however the duo has peaked in popularity as of late. Id pose the daring statement that fashion inspired by fitness has most definitely made boxing as a whole more appealing. Boxing has long since been a sport that most criticize as too violent, and seemingly more and more becoming less of a popular sport to interact with for viewers and contenders alike. Meanwhile some boxers like Floyd Mayweather & Pacquiao are set to make boxing history and boxing clubs in Canada appear more popular than ever. How can such a juxtaposition exist you may ask?The following points are factors that I felt built a strong case for the notion of boxing being inspired by fashion and vice versa.

Ive learned to always think about general PESTEL (Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Environmental and Legal) trends within the wider market before honing in on a particular trend & this trend needed to be applicable for both menswear and womenswear.

A major contributor other than the fashion Industry would be undoubtedly turning boxing into the fitness trend it is today. The trend boasts you can burn up to 600 calories in an hour & gives way to some sleek, tailored and chic athleisure wear as well, a very popular trend of clothing that translates well into the most important categories of fashion like styling, silhouette, fabric and fit. Although I am usually the first to say no to following trends it seems this one was planned and executed well by many like Alexander Wang designer boxing gloves which would set u back 250 dollars at a minimum. Chanel also jumped on the boxing bandwagon for its 2014-15 Fall/Winter campaign and it seems like almost every lingerie model’s secret to nice, toned muscles includes the cardio and strength training combo that boxing provides.Due to the popularity of Gigi Hadid and alternative fitness classes, boxing was becoming more well known on the social exercise scene with cool new venues emerging such as KOBOX and others like it.

During the time frame of creating the trend, Gigi Hadid was the nations favorite celebrity& through research I discovered her love for boxing and outlining this as her form of exercise in preparation for her Victoria Secret debut.Having already been inspired by sibling's colorful boxing interpretation at London Collection Mens early in the year I noticed a pattern emerging when Greg Lauren debuted his AW16 collection at New York Fashion Week. The show created a stir by turning the runway into a boxing ring to highlight the inspiration behind the collection. Film releases both prior to the season and during the season was another element of boxing. The films Creed and Hands of Stone were both released in late 2015. This added to the boxing hype that would support sales of this trend.Taylor Swift won numerous awards for her music video Bad Blood with a strong focus on empowered women, this video featured model Karlie Kloss as ‘The Knockout’ dressed as a boxer, with the image of this subsequently pushed in the press. The ‘I Am The Greatest’ exhibition at the O2 documenting the life and times of boxer Muhammed Ali also raised the profile of the sport within popular culture. There is no doubt in my mind that the two, Fashion and fitness pair well with each other and have birthed the trend of athleisure in a whole new way.
